Have you had enough reminders to wash your hands? There are even videos to remind us how to wash up just in case you have forgotten your mother’s instructions. Evidently, we are to wet our hands and use soap, scrub the full surface of both hands for a minimum of 20 seconds and rinse with as hot a water as the hands will stand. And, dry the hands thoroughly. Repeat if you touch anything.

As most of you know, I am a recovering engineer and do have an issue with acronyms. BUSY stands for Being Under Satan’s Yoke. REST stands for Really Embracing Scriptural Truth. WASH stands for Worship And Spiritual Health. The encouragement is to build on the energy around being smart physically and apply it to being empowered spiritually. A dad recently said, “This is like a big ‘timeout’ from God. We are blessed by the break in all our busy-ness and are really enjoying time together as a family.”

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2. The realization of how much I have conformed to the pattern of this world has hit me square between the eyes these past couple of weeks. Not only me but my whole family. Now, with the calendar cleared of all the stuff we thought was important, there is rediscovery of what is important. God’s will, as personified through Jesus the Christ, is to glorify the Father. This ‘timeout’ is an opportunity to rebuke the conformance to this world’s priorities and be transformed by a renewed focus on the Father. The call is to Worship God in every circumstance And use this time well to strengthen the Spiritual Health personally, in marriage and in family. It is time to WASH up!

I have heard how families that are streaming church services have been blessed as the kids ask questions in real time. It has opened hearts and minds to the perspective the children have and some wonderful spiritual discussion has resulted in family. One dad has started going for a run with his teenage son every day over lunch. It is a time of worship for him, a time of thanks for the opportunity to engage with his son that would never have happened with the old level of conformance to this world. Whether it is going for a run or a walk with a loved one, dropping a line in the water with the kids, reading scripture together as family or praying together, WASH up and repeat often.

Prayer guide: Lord, thank You for Your word and for the ‘timeout’ You have provided. I confess my anxiety was high initially. There is the financial pressure and I did not want to admit to my level of conformance to the pattern of this world. In the process, I granted circumstances more power of my situation than I should have. Forgive me. Help me WASH up. I know You are sovereign and deserving of worship 24/7! Teach me to worship and glorify You where You have me. Improve my spiritual health as I recognize this opportunity to be the Godly contagion You expect me to be, as the man, husband and father You call me to be. I love You Lord. Amen.

A faithful father is all about WASH, Worship And Spiritual Health in family.

It's interesting how God uses all things for His good. I pray the family, His creation, has been strengthened because of this virus.

This week's message is "spot on"! Our backyard backs up to Buffalo bayou and I have never seen the number of families out for a walk together in the 20 years we have lived here! Hopefully once we get thru this, it will become part of "the norm".
