After his weekend experience at the church’s father-son retreat, he met with the pastor and said, “I want what your men have.” He had seen men discussing tough topics in small groups, dads enjoying time with their sons and fathers praying a specific blessing over their sons in front of the whole group. He had never witnessed such real relationship among men before.

One older man in the group without a son at the retreat shared a story of ...read on

At a recent “Porn Harms” conference, Josh McDowell told a story of a mom that could not find her cell phone. She had looked in all the normal places and finally decided to ask her 10year old son if he had seen her phone but she could not find him either. Going to his room she found the door shut. When she entered the room, her son jumped and tried to hide the phone under his shirt.

The ensuing exchange was ...read on

In her seventies, she was the oldest one in her class by several decades. She enjoyed the interaction with the “kids” and reminded them how important it was to grow and learn every day. Mary led by example as she went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling at age 78.

Mary was the most spiritual person I have ever known. She was not one to just sit in the pews, listen to the pastor every Sunday and go home. She committed time daily to ...read on

Crime, racism, sexual exploitation, failing schools and dysfunctional families seem to dominate the news. Throw in a heavy dose of election-year politics and it is easy to get caught up in the shadows at work to stifle the Light in this world.

Jason Riley, author of “Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed”, recently wrote about the Republican candidate venturing into the inner cities ...read on

Confusion is rampant around sexuality and what healthy relationship looks like. As men, we must accept responsibility for the status quo because we have been passive toward a scheme designed to distract us, destroy marriages and is now aggressively going after our kids. It is pornography. We have been charged as husbands to reflect the standard for healthy relationship in marriage. As dads, we are to pass it on by example to the next generation. This is a call to BATTLE, for dads to rebuke and purge this scheme for the sake of the next generation.

Facts about pornography:

He was playing golf on a Saturday morning again. It was business. On the 13th hole, already four hours into the round he was busted. Work required a good bit of travel and customer interaction but at that moment as a young father he realized that he was consistently compromising time with his family for the sake of his career.

Man can be selfish. Words like “competitive” or “driven” put a nice spin on it but ...read on

A disciple is a follower who in turn has a following. A personal follower of Jesus the Christ was called a disciple and he in turn had a following as he carried forward all that had been learned from the Teacher. Dads are disciples. We typically follow our dad or father-figure’s example and carry forward what has been learned into our own fathering journey.

The difference between the original disciples and dads is ...read on

It seems ironic that Labor Day is a holiday for most Americans. Labor Day was established as a federal holiday in 1894 to celebrate the work ethic of Americans across all industries and their contributions to the U.S. economy. And it gave workers a well-earned day off. Today there are nine federal holidays giving folks almost two weeks off in addition to vacation time. A person would think that job satisfaction would be at an all-time high. However, today over half of Americans, 52.3% are unhappy at work per the Conference Board, a New York-based research group. This compares to nearly two-thirds of Americans liking their job just three decades ago. Is Labor Day about celebrating good work ethic and contributions to the economy or just enjoying a 3-day weekend?

Labor days number 365 a year on the cattle ranch. Starting the ...read on

We have heard a lot about what matters lately. There is a group getting a lot of press conveying how black lives matter. An opposing group showed up at a rally to get their message out that white lives matter. Then there are the folks out there stating the obvious that all lives matter. Maybe they are trying to give voice to the millions of unborn of all colors that do not get to voice what matters to them.

What matters is ...read on
