It was his senior year of high school and accounting was the last class period of the day. He had gotten an ‘A’ the first quarter of the spring semester and rationalized that if he did not go to class the second quarter, the grade would average out to a ‘C’. That would be good enough to graduate. His focus was on having an extra hour of tennis practice.
Along with reading Scripture and learning to live under the authority of the word of God, prayer provides the undergirding for loving, leading and protecting marriage and family. In fact, prayer opens the heart and mind for increased sensitivity to how the Holy Spirit speaks through Scripture to help you lead a life obedient to His word.
In an interview years ago, Pastor Rick Warren stated, “Kay and I became reverse tithers. When we got married, we began tithing at 10%. Each year we would raise our tithe 1% - 11% the second year; 12% the third; and 13% the fourth. … And so now, we give away 90% and live on 10%.”
