What started out with one dad talking to another about his son asking for help to stop watching pornography has manifested into a city-wide initiative in the Church and beyond. Let’s Talk About Porn, Parenting through the porn problem, round III is being hosted at Faith Bible Church in The Woodlands on Sunday evening, February 26th. This is a forum for dads, moms and youth to open the dialogue around sexuality and healthy relationships before peers and the Internet take control of the conversation.

The average age of first exposure to pornography is nine-years old; the largest consumers of pornography are ...read on

What are you talking about in your home? The schedule for working around another soccer tournament this weekend? Homework and that class project? Logistics for going three directions with two cars? Or is that done via text and Outlook Calendar?

What should be talked about in the home? In “Revolutionary Parenting” George Barna documented that “nationwide, ...read on

What are you religious about? Is it your workout routine or your profession? Maybe a sport or hobby? One of America’s great religions is on full display in Houston, Texas, this week – football. Religion may be a strong word. For most it is simply a passionate interest in a game, but some are indeed religious about their football. The last game of the season will be played Sunday and women will get their husbands back. At least until March Madness kicks in.

Religion by definition is: a pursuit or interest to which ...read on

Fathering with purpose in family. What is that supposed to look like? It is hard to see when you are immersed in the busy-ness of life. “Providing and surviving” is how one dad put it. He said, “I work hard to provide for my family, try to make it to the kids’ activities and survive to do it over again tomorrow.”

Getting on top of all the busy-ness takes intentionality. It may require ...read on

The decision was to not even give his son a smart phone. The respected sources in his circles suggested putting off the purchase of the pocket computer for his kids until age 15 or 16. Then his ten-year-old son came home from school asking questions about female body parts. A boy on the bus had been showing pornography to other boys by way of his smart phone.

What is a dad to do? The option is not to ...read on

Eating meals on the run is the rule as a dad shuttles his sons between baseball and soccer practices. Mom picks their daughter up immediately after marching band practice to get her to play rehearsal at a community theatre. Then there are the piano and voice lessons, swimming and volley ball. Is it any wonder that couples often have to re-introduce themselves after kids leave the home?

The priority in family is ...read on

“You are not wearing that young lady!” Those were the first words spoken to his daughter that morning. She responded in anger and tears, ran back to her room and slammed the door. As breakfast got cold, his wife said, “You need to pick your battles.”

Dad certainly had every right to hold his daughter accountable for dressing appropriately. The important thing missing in this situation was ...read on

Merry Christmas from my family to yours.

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands. – Deuteronomy 7:9. Our Father is a faithful Father. He has proven His faithfulness in loving us so much that He gave us the Christ child, Himself incarnate.

As you celebrate Christmas with your family, reflect on what kind of love this is ...read on

One of my favorite movies is “Field of Dreams”. Ray Consella, Kevin Costner’s character is reunited with his dad on the ballfield he was driven to build. In the last scene after talking a bit, the dad turns to leave but Ray says, “Hey Dad, want to have a catch?” His dad responded, “Yeah. I’d like that.” At that moment, there was a reconnection of what had been disconnected years earlier, the healthy relationship between a father and son.

The activity varies – having a catch, hitting a tennis ball, going hunting, playing chess or hiking in the wilderness. The metaphor is of ...read on
